The concept for Give A Living Rose was created by Executive Producer, Monya Claborn.

A minister’s daughter, Monya grew up in the deep South. When her mother developed Alzheimer’s, Monya decided to put a cookbook together in her honor; gathering recipes from all the women with whom Monya’s parents had met while serving others.

Monya was amazed at the outpouring of thoughtfulness and cooperation she received. But most significantly, she was overwhelmed by the emotional personal letters that accompanied all of the recipes. Countless letters from people sharing wonderful stories of the many acts of love and empathy Monya’s mother and father had shared with others over the decades.

There were letters of humor, praise and above all, gratitude.

Monya’s entire family was moved by the flood of emotion in the letters they had received. But the letters also yielded a surprising gift to a family preparing for the imminent loss of their beloved matriarch.

The letters recreated many of the most cherished moments and memories of Monya’s mother life. In her lucid moments, Monya’s mother now had an opportunity to relive the very best of her life through the words of people who so cherished her in memory.

Monya feels that these letters were the best gifts her mother could have received in her final years on earth.

Thus the concept of giving a rose to someone before they pass - A Living Rose - was born.

Monya is the Founder of Claborn Specialty Sales, an institutional sales company that later was incorporated into Cornerstone Detention Products; a multimillion dollar company listed among Fortune 500 companies. Currently, Monya is President and CEO of Cornerstone Entertainment.
